Why mold is a Hampton Roads specialty problem
Mold needs 24–48 hours of moisture to colonize — and our humidity hands it a head start. Post-flood mold behind drywall, crawl-space mold feeding on joists, bathroom mold from chronic leaks: we see all three weekly. Black mold (Stachybotrys) gets the headlines, but any established colony degrades air quality and must be remediated under containment.
Real remediation vs. bleach and hope
Proper remediation: containment barriers with negative air pressure, HEPA air scrubbers running throughout, removal of colonized porous materials (drywall, insulation), HEPA-vacuuming and antimicrobial treatment of remaining structure, then clearance verification. Bleach on drywall doesn't kill roots in porous material — it bleaches the color and leaves the colony. Anyone quoting mold work without mentioning containment is selling a wipe-down, not remediation.
Find the water first
Mold is a symptom; moisture is the disease. Every remediation we do includes moisture-source diagnosis — roof leak, plumbing, crawl-space humidity, HVAC condensation — because remediation without fixing the source is a subscription, not a solution.
